Lust List: Spring

Spring has definitely not sprung here in Michigan (and probably won’t make an appearance until June), but that doesn’t mean we can’t start preparing ourselves! Besides being excited about being able to drive with the windows down and not freeze, I’m also excited to see what new trends will sprout in the coming months. Thankfully, People Style Watch, one of my favorite magazines, made it easy to start planning out our wardrobes with their latest issue, which is dedicated to spring fashion! In the issue, they feature a list of the top ten fashion trends of spring! Here are just a few of the trends they mentioned that I’m excited about:

When it comes to wearing a pattern, I always go for floral (literally, it’s like the only print wardrobe). Now that it’s a trend this spring, I can justify buying more!

Following winter, we’re all a little more tired and sluggish (a Vitamin D deficiency can be blamed for that). Due to our lack of sunshine, add some brightness to your clothes! Shades of neon add a playful feel to any outfit that will make anyone feel more cheerful and awake!

I love clothes that give off a retro vibe (I drool over ModCloth) and a¬†Peplum themed shirt or dress emulate just that! They are also super flattering and create an hourglass silhouette! Can’t go wrong there!

Mint Green

You can’t help feeling relaxed wearing this carefree shade. I can’t wait to release my inner zen and pick up a few pieces in this color!

So, those are just a few things I’m excited about, but what are you guys most excited about for spring? Let me know!

Take care,

Sushi Loving

For Valentine’s Day my boyfriend and I spent the evening making sushi! He came up with this unique idea after a few friends of his taught him how to make this delicacy the other day. Recently, I found a new found love for sushi and I was so excited for this dinner adventure. He went out to the store and picked up all the ingredients and off we went. We made a couple different rolls using asparagus, cucumber, avocado, and crab meat. The sushi rolls turned out great! We had fun experimenting with making different rolls and figuring out the proper way keep all the ingredients in the roll! Sushi is fun and easy to make and you can find easy to follow directions at the website Make My Sushi. Have you guys ever tried to make sushi?

DIY Glitter Candles

Glitter candles are simple and take less than 10 minutes to make. They add a new depth to the ordinary, plain candle.  I came across this DIY on the blog, Say Yes to Hoboken  and I immediately rushed out to the store to get the items needed to make this fabulous candle. I used pink glitter in honor of Valentines Day and they are so cute! I want to throw a Valentines day party just to show off my candles! Do you guys have any great Valentines DIY that you absolutely love?

What you need:

– Candles, any shape or size.

– Spray Adhesive

– Glitter of any color

– Tape

Step One:

Wrap the tape around the candle in an even line. Taping off the area in where you want to apply to glitter.

Step Two:

Spray the exposed area where you plan to apply the glitter with your spray adhesive.

Step Three:

Sprinkle glitter all over the area where the spray adhesive was applied. Make sure to apply lots and lots of glitter!

Step Four:

Wait a few minutes and then carefully peel off the tape.

and voilà!

Nina Dobrev

Earlier tonight, my co-blogger Molly plopped down the newest issue of Nylon in front of me fully knowing that Nina Dobrev, who is featured on the cover, is one of my favorite up and coming actresses! I let out a small squeal of excitement as I rushed through the glossy pages to get to her editorial. I discovered Nina Dobrev when I started watching the show The Vampire Diaries,¬†which airs on the CW, Thursday nights. I must admit that The Vampire Diaries is a guilty pleasure of mine. Handsome leading men, wicked action, supernatural forces, love triangles. Not to mention Nina Dobrev, the leading lady, plays not only one role as a level headed, girl next door, but also as a¬†doppelg√§nger¬†vampire vixen out to ruin the life of her lookalike¬†counterpart. This is a show not to be overlooked! Nina Dobrev was born in Bulgaria and moved the Canada at the age of two. She broke through in her acting career on the famous Canadian teen drama, Degrassi: The Next Generation. From there she landed the role as Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce on The Vampire Diaries. To some Nina Dobrev may not be a household name, but just you wait, she is bound to be the next “it girl” in a matter of time!

Ballet Flats by TOMS!

You never know love until you find it in a perfect pair of shoes. And you never truly know heartbreak until you have to throw them out. For me, it was my first pair of ¬†TOMS¬†classics. I first laid eyes on them at Nordstrom. They were in the shade “stonewash gray” and as soon as I tried them on, they rarely left my feet. We eventually parted ways after six months, when our time spent together created holes and water stains.

{Grey Stone-Washed Classics}

As I approached the garbage can to cut ties, I knew I would have to be quick, otherwise I would not do it. I tore the lid off, tossed them in, and walked away. Since our “breakup,” I have tried other shoes, but none quite fit me like my TOMS did. That’s when I knew that it was destiny and I needed to go back.

 {Natalia Rose Ballet Flats}

While my first pair were in the Classic cut, they also offer other styles, such as Botas or Cordones, both of which I find absolutely adorable. Their newest style, however, are Ballet Flats! TOMS shoes are known for their casual vibe, so ballet flats are a great addition to the line, as they can be both dressed up or down.

{Gisele Grey Ballet Flats}

While I will not stray completely from the classic cut (I plan on purchasing this olive green¬†pair¬†next), ¬†I am definitely getting situated with a pair of TOMS ballet flats, too! I can’t wait to try them out. And the best thing about TOMS shoes, besides looking cute in them, is that with your purchase, a child in need gets a pair of shoes, too! Can’t beat that!

So, what about you guys? Are there any shoes that you absolutely love? Let us know!

Take care and good luck!

Naked Palette 2 Tutorial & Review

Last year, Urban Decay Cosmetics released the Naked Palette, an eye shadow set featuring a dozen neutral colors, with shades ranging from a pure, matte beige to a smokey, shimmery black. The set quickly became a cult classic due its versatility and was constantly sold out online and in stores.

After the booming success of the first installment, Urban Decay decided to launch a sequel to the Naked Palette (cleverly titled¬†Naked Palette 2)¬†this past December. Needless to say, the set was another instant hit. And despite the kits both being based on neutral, they are different. Instead of having ¬†shadows in warmer hues, the Naked Palette 2 offers shades in cooler tones. The Naked Palette 2 also comes with a lip gloss in the shade “Naked” and a double-ended eye shadow brush.

{Naked 2}

{Swiping Our Favorite Shade “Booty Call”}

{Entire Palette}

The Naked Palette 2 gives the ability to create basically any eye look you could think of! To get you all inspired, we decided to focus on a basic look for day and a sultrier look for night. Scroll down to see the complete looks and shades used:

Day Look:

All Over Base: “Booty Call”

Crease: “Chopper”

Outer Corner: Half Baked

Highlight: Foxy

Night Look:

Inner Corner: “Verve”

So, is it worth the buy? Definitely! However, owning both palettes could be deemed unnecessary, unless you are a total beauty junkie. If I had to choose between the two, I would definitely go with the latest edition as I tend to veer towards cooler toned shadows. But to each her own! What are your guys’ opinions of the palettes? Have you tried one? Both? Let us know! Hope you enjoyed and felt some inspiration!

Take care and good luck,

Molly & Courtney

Blue Moon cupcakes

While exploring the vast world of Pinterest, I came across a recipe with rave reviews! This recipe was for cupcakes made with Blue Moon beer. Blue Moon is a beer known for its light, citrus taste. Needless to say, I immediately went out to the store to buy the ingredients. I found the exact recipe from the wonderful blog, Miss Make.  Miss Make gives a detailed step by step, easy to follow recipe. The cupcakes turned out amazing! My whole family gobbled them up the moment they came out of the oven. Blue Moon cupcakes are a great addition to any party, just make sure you have some time to make them because the mixing and prep time is about an 1 hour and half! It is so worth it though. Try out the recipe yourself and tell me how your results turned out!

Blue Moon Cupcakes
3/4 c unsalted butter, softened
1 3/4 c sugar
2 1/2 c flour
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3 eggs, room temperature
1 tsp vanilla
2 drops red food coloring
10 drops yellow food coloring
1/2 tsp orange zest
1 c Blue Moon beer
1/4 c milk
Frothy White Frosting
small orange slices, for garnish
1. Line 24 cupcake trays with liners. [Use white liners if you can, they become translucent during baking and really sell the mini Blue Moon image]. In a medium bowl, mix together flour, baking power and salt.
2. In a large bowl beat butter on medium speed for 30 seconds. Add sugar a little bit at a time, beating well. Once it’s all added beat for 2 more minutes.
3. Add eggs, beating after each.
4. Add vanilla, food coloring and orange zest and beat.
5. Mix beer and milk in a measuring cup. Alternatively add beer / milk mixture and flour mixture to butter mixture in the large bowl, beating after each. End on the flour mixture.
6. Fill cupcake liners 2/3 full. Bake for 18 minutes at 375 degrees F until cupcakes are golden and a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
7. Once cool, frost each cupcake with a generous amount of frosting. Just before serving, garnish each with a small orange slice.
Frothy White Frosting
2 egg whites, room temperature
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp orange juice
1 c sugar
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1/3 c water
1. In a saucepan, mix sugar, water and cream of tartar. Cook on medium heat until sugar is dissolved and mixture is bubbly.
2. In a large bowl, beat egg whites, vanilla and orange juice until soft peaks form. Slowly add hot sugar mixture, beating continuously. Beat for 7 minutes until stiff peaks form.
Drum roll please…..
